Patricia Alicea received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Hearing Science from Kean University. She received her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology, with Summa Cum Laude honors, at Kean University. During her graduate program, Patricia had the opportunity to work with children and adults with a variety of speech and language disorders in Kean University's speech clinic, a preschool communication handicapped classroom, elementary school, sub acute rehabilitation, long term care and acute care settings. Patricia received training in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Saint Peter's University Hospital and was a member of the Neonatal Developmental Follow-Up Clinic. She also received training in modified barium swallow studies. Patricia worked with adults at JFK Hartwyck traumatic brain injury campus, sub-acute rehabilitation and long term care facilities where she provided cognitive therapy, dysphagia therapy, voice therapy, and speech/language therapy. In addition to individualized therapy, Patricia assisted in the organization of stroke therapy groups, providing speech/language therapy, swallowing therapy, and emotional support. She participated in Neurology Grand Rounds with a team of professionals. Patricia worked at St. Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center where she evaluated and treated birth though adult populations. Patricia ran a pragmatic language therapy group for children diagnosed with Developmental Disabilities. She co-treated with Physical and Occupational Therapists at St. Barnabas' therapeutic playground to enhance therapy programs. She participated in team evaluations/follow-ups working directly with a Pediatric Neurologist, Psychologist , Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists to create comprehensive therapy plans. She was a member of the NJ Craniofacial Team where she worked with a multidisciplinary team including Oromaxillofacial Surgeons, Orthodontics, Plastic Surgeons, Pediatric Neurosurgeons, Otolaryngologists, Audiologists, Psychologists, Pediatricians and Pediatric Dentists. Patricia is certified in Vital Stim Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for swallowing disorders in pediatric and adults. She is trained in using a Nasometer and Visipitch computer system. She also has taken numerous continuing education courses for various types of speech/language disorders and looks forward to pursing more courses in the future. Patricia is a New Jersey Early Intervention Provider and also provides home care therapy. She is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is licensed by the state of New Jersey as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Patricia also holds a certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education as a Speech-Language Specialist. Patricia has a special interest in medically based speech and language disorders, feeding disorders, oral-motor, and apraxia. Patricia has had great pleasure working at Speech and Hearing Associates where she thoroughly enjoys working with her patients and families. She feels so lucky to work in such a rewarding profession where she can help improve the quality of lives for her patients.
